Dr. Monica García Brooks, a proud alumna of West Virginia University, the University of Kentucky and Marshall University brings more than 35 years of service to the state’s academic libraries.
As Dean of Libraries at Marshall University, she assists in advancing the institution’s mission, fostering innovation and promoting excellence in library services. Dr. Brooks was included in the 2016 edition of Latino American Who’s Who and is a past president of the West Virginia Library Association (WVLA).
She was honored in 2018 with WVLA’s prestigious Dora Ruth Parks Award for her outstanding contributions to the profession. In 2024, she was appointed Chair of the WVLA Intellectual Freedom Committee and continues to co-facilitate the West Virginia Electronic Resources Consortium, supporting statewide collaboration on library resources.
As a founding faculty member of WVROCKS—an accelerated online degree program for West Virginia residents—Dr. Brooks has helped hundreds of adult students in the state achieve their academic goals. She has expanded this mission to help colleagues develop and launch the first-ever master’s program in library science at Marshall University and in WV expected during the 2025-26 academic year.
Beyond campus life, Dr. Brooks explores the intersection of history, culture, and personal legacy through research projects on her family’s traveling circus, La Carpa Garcia (1914-1947), and the innovative Homes of Tomorrow Exhibition from the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair.
